The art of geometry

According to the tenets  of Islam, figurative decorations or representations of God or the Prophet are forbidden. This is why geometric patterns are among the most iconic visual expressions of Islamic art and architecture.

The craftsmen of the past had a deep understanding of geometry. Without any theory or mathematical calculation, they could draw circles and lines to create complex and perfect patterns.

A unique object with Islamic patterns

This model bearing an Islamic pattern was inspired by Egyptian quranic calligraphy.

The frontispiece of this Mamluk Quran is embellished with gold leaf. It was made specially for the mosque of the sultan Hassan, in Cairo.

This adornment is crafted in silver or gold using time-honoured methods and adapted on a Caran d’Ache Leman model. It is crowned with a blue sapphire, reminiscent of the colour used in the most beautiful masterpieces of geometric Islamic art. This writing instrument is a limited edition of 100 pieces.
