Grey shark

Description

The shark, a predator in all its splendour

Sharks are found in all seas, and there are over 450 species, including the grey reef shark, which is represented in this feather.
The Grey Reef Shark, scientific name Carcharhinus amblyrhynchos, is a magnificent marine predator of the coral reefs of the Pacific and Indian Oceans.
It can be recognised by its broad, rounded snout and large, round eyes. Although it is less than 2 metres long, it is a formidable hunter.
Powerful, it swims against the current to better detect the scent of the fish and cephalopods it loves. A protected species, you can observe it for example in the heart of the Polynesian reserve of Fakarava or off the coast of Hawaii.
Be careful, however, as this species of shark does not like to be disturbed. When it feels threatened, the animal strikes a characteristic intimidating pose: it raises its snout, lowers its pectoral fins, arches its back and makes lateral movements that cause it to roll in the water. It then attacks with a ferocious jaw consisting of 13 to 14 rows of sharp teeth.

The power of the sandbar shark on a silver pen.

The grey reef shark is sculpted on a Caran d'Ache pen, immortalising the elegance of its metallic outfit. Its silver body wraps around this high end pen and is set against a blue background. The ring and the top of the cap are decorated with geometric and floral motifs reminiscent of the famous Maori tattoos.
